Jetties, Lake Colac

I often visit the lake for inspiration and I have photographed these jetties many times. This time I used a medium zoom lens to give the images a different perspective.

Currently the Yacht Club Jetty is not being used. After a sustained period of drought the lake dried up. It is now slowly filling, however the water is still not deep enough to sail the yachts.

First Light…Last Light

As photographers we know that light plays an important part when we make our picture. Personally I find the light best just as the sun rises over the horizon or just before it disappears in the west. At these times it covers the world in a reddish glow.

I must confess I have a love of trees. I have fond memories of Arbor Day while at primary school; all students took part in planting trees in the school surrounds. I was taught that trees purified the air. I was also taught that the Amazon jungle was considered the “lungs of the earth”. So why are we so quick to clear the forests and jungles?

The images above are of trees all found at the Botanic Gardens in Colac, Victoria, Australia.

A Splash of Colour

A splash of colour #2 – Botanic Gardens, Colac

I think we all like to have a little colour in our life. And spring is just the right time to find some colour.

The following splashes of colour were found in the Colac Botanic Gardens. The first image was shot a couple of weeks ago, but the second was taken while on my walk this morning.

History in the Main Street

The following images were taken in the main street (shopping centre) of Colac, located in south west Victoria, Australia. When looking at the shops, my eyes tend to gaze above the street level, for this is where the history of the town is on display.

The Road I Walk

“I’m always mentally photographing everything as practice.” – Minor White (American Photographer: 1908 – 1976)

The images I am sharing with you today are the “mental photographs” I have taken while on my daily walk. It had been heavy overcast conditions and rained most of the day, but late in the afternoon the rain stopped and the sun burst through.

Macro

I must admit, I love macro-photography; and that usually means flowers. So the last few days I’ve been out about with my camera and, as it is spring here in Australia beautiful blooms are appearing everywhere.

Leaves of the Princess Tree

Last week, after posting some images of a Princess Tree, I found myself back in the Colac Botanic Gardens. This time the cloud was not as dense and there were patches of sunshine. The image below was taken on that trip. I really like backlighting and the sun obliged!

Iris

Yesterday I took a photo-walk through the local Botanic Gardens. It is early spring in Australia, and I thought it was time to check out the new growth. One flower bed contained some beautiful Irises, which are among my favourite flowers.
