Common Brown Butterfly

This is one of my favourite quotes: There are a thousand photos within ten minutes of home.

And this image is an example of that quote. I came across this beauty no more than half a dozen steps from my back door.

The photo below is of a Common Brown Butterfly (Heteronympha merope) which is native to Australia. By late summer, only females are alive, and, as it is now autumn, it appears this may be a female.

Meredith Park

Last night at sunset I was in Meredith Park on the northern end of Lake Colac. The park is also a camping ground which is very popular with caravaners travelling around Australia. Despite only offering basic facilities it does not charge fees.

Glory Bush

Tibouchina are trees or shrubs growing from half a metre to 25 metres in height, and are native to Mexico, the Caribbean and South America (particularly Brazil.

These images were taken in the Botanic Gardens at Colac, near where I live.

The next image shows my love of getting up very close with the subject when photographing flowers.
