Review

As the end of the year approaches, I have reviewed my blog and have decided to repost my most popular images from the year. These photographs of Water Lilies were taken when attending the Melbourne International Garden and Flower Show earlier in the year.

Upon uploading the images to my computer, I was very pleased with the results; and it appears so were the visitors to my blog.

Great Egret

Yesterday while walking along the bank of the Barongarook Creek, I spotted this Great Egret feeding in the water.  The Great Egret would be one of my favourite birds.

Great Egret (Ardea alba) will be found in floodwaters, rivers, creeks, shallows of wetlands and intertidal mud-flats.

Hoverfly

Hoverflies are sometimes referred to as flower Flies and will be seen hovering at flowers. They mainly feed on pollen and nectar. Hoverflies are known to mimic bees and wasps as a defence against predators. They are common in most countries.

Hoverfly or Flower Fly

They are commonly seen during warmer months hovering among flowers, feeding and mating. They pollinate many plants and help keep aphids under control.

They will hover  in the one spot,  then move suddenly forwards or sideways, hovering again.

Little Aire Falls

On Saturday I returned to the Great Otway National Park to visit another waterfall – the Little Aire Falls. With such a wet spring this year all the falls are looking very spectacular. It is my first visit to these falls and I must admit I was very impressed.
