For a photographer, autumn (next to spring) would have to be one of the best seasons for colour.
In Australia our autumn colours come from trees introduced in the 19th century by our early settlers. Our ancestors bemoaned that Australia was always green and they missed the colours they remembered from home. So they introduced new species to Australia that gave us the colour they craved. Here in Victoria, Australia, there are large plantings of English Elms, English Oak, Plane trees, and other trees which provide autumn colour.
Personally I find the autumn sun much more subtle for photography. The harshness of the summer sun is missing.
