Old Customs House, Williamstown

In the early days of the colonisation of Australia, wherever ships landed to unload their wares for the fledgling colony, there were the government officials whose job it was to collect the taxes, duties and customs charges for the Crown.

Many of these buildings still stand today and are now used for other purposes. The Customs House in Williamstown is one such building.
